Eligibility
MEMBERSHIP ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible to participate with the Falcon Pointe Flyers, swimmers must:
- Be residents of the Falcon Pointe Home Owners’ Association
- Be aged 5 years to 18 years as of May 1 of the season.
- Pass the Flyers Swimmer Evaluation.
- Any exceptions will be at the Flyer's Board & Coach's discretion.
- Priority will always be given to returning members.
SKILLS ELIGIBILITY
At the coach's discretion, swimmers are welcomed onto the team if they meet the following skills:
- Swim 25 yd Freestyle, exhibiting consistent proficient side-breathing patterns
- Swim 25 yd Backstroke exhibiting proficient kick & stable horizontal body position
- Show ability to focus on instruction, amidst large group, for 30-45 min session
Minimum proficiency is set on the Flyers Evaluation Scorecard:
During evaluation, coaches are observing:
- The swimmer's confidence when entering water greater than 4' deep.
- The swimmer's coordination and skill when entering the water.
- The swimmer's ability to immerse their face in the water when swimming.
- The swimmer's Freestyle stroke skill level.
- The swimmer's ability to manage their breathing when swimming.
- The distance the swimmer goes during evaluation.
- The swimmer's ability to float on their back.
There will be multiple pre-season "Swim Evaluation" dates (usually late March, early April) in order for the Coach to determine whether or not a swimmer appears ready for the swim team. All new swimmers must pass the swim evaluation.
NEW SWIMMERS
Once on the team, the first week of practice is probationary for beginning swimmers. Head Coach will have final determination of a swimmer’s readiness. Children who, at the coach's discretion relative to skill level, are unable to continue after the first week will be offered a partial refund.
We ask that you please consider thoroughly whether your child is ready, both emotionally and skill-wise, for the swim team prior to swim evaluation. Although we place great focus on teaching technique, swim team is not the place for beginner swim lessons.
Should registration for the Flyers be full, eligible swimmers will be put on a waiting list. Should space open up members on the list will be called immediately.
